Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was found not guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy but convicted of two counts of transportation for prostitution, a federal jury in New York ruled on July 2, 2025.
The verdict followed a six-week trial and three days of jury deliberations. While acquitted of the most serious charges that could have resulted in a life sentence, Combs, 55, now faces up to 20 years in prison for the two prostitution-related convictions. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian denied bail and ordered Combs to remain in custody until sentencing, tentatively scheduled for October.

The case centered around allegations that Combs led a criminal enterprise that exploited women through manipulation, abuse, and coercion. The prosecution’s lead witness, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura — Combs’ former girlfriend — delivered emotional testimony describing “freak-off” events and alleging sexual abuse and control. Another ex-girlfriend, identified only as “Jane,” also testified about coercion and prolonged sexual encounters.
Combs’ legal team did not present any witnesses during the trial and maintained that all sexual activity described in the case was consensual.

Ventura’s 2023 civil lawsuit initially sparked the investigation. Her attorney, Douglas Wigdor, acknowledged the split verdict but praised her courage, stating she “brought attention to the realities of powerful men in our orbit.”
This marks a dramatic fall from grace for Combs, once known as Puff Daddy and the founder of Bad Boy Records, where he collaborated with artists like The Notorious B.I.G., Usher, and Mary J. Blige. Once one of hip-hop’s most influential figures, Combs now awaits sentencing as his legacy continues to unravel under mounting allegations.
