Tim Myers, best known as a founding member and former bassist of Grammy-nominated pop-rock band OneRepublic, is making waves with a bold pivot into politics. On July 9, Myers officially announced his candidacy for California lieutenant governor as a Democrat, sharing the news with supporters across social media. “Let’s write a new song for California — together,” Myers declared, adding that the current political system is failing everyday Californians and needs a fresh voice.

Myers, a third-generation Californian and founder of Palladium Records, aims to bring a creative and compassionate perspective to public office. With experience writing and producing music for major artists like Kesha, Hailee Steinfeld, and Michelle Branch, he’s now shifting his focus to what he calls “commonsense solutions” — promising to defend healthcare, public education, and immigrant communities from what he views as attacks by the Trump administration. His campaign emphasizes affordability, safety, and opportunity for all Californians.

Originally planning a run for Congress against GOP incumbent Ken Calvert, Myers redirected his campaign to focus on the lieutenant governor position. He has vowed to use his platform to push back against Donald Trump’s influence and protect California’s progressive values. The Democratic primary will be held in June 2026, with the general election to follow in November. Whether through music or policy, Myers is looking to inspire — and lead — his home state into a new era.
