Rosie O’Donnell fires back with powerful poem as feud with Trump escalates; Ellen stands by her side.
Ellen DeGeneres is speaking out in defense of longtime acquaintance Rosie O’Donnell after former President Donald Trump threatened to revoke O’Donnell’s U.S. citizenship. The threat, posted by Trump on Truth Social, called O’Donnell a “threat to humanity” and claimed he was “seriously considering” stripping her citizenship — a move constitutional scholars say he has no legal authority to carry out.
In response, DeGeneres shared a screenshot of Trump’s post along with Rosie O’Donnell’s fiery poetic rebuttal on Instagram, captioning it: “Good for you @Rosie.”
In the powerful poem, O’Donnell — who moved to Ireland in early 2025 with her son — criticizes Trump’s leadership, stating:
“You crave loyalty – I teach my children to question power… You lie, you steal, you degrade – I nurture, I create, I persist.”
She also calls Trump “King Joffrey with a tangerine spray tan” and doubles down on her decision to leave the U.S., describing it as a move for her autistic child and for “a country where decency still exists.”
Though O’Donnell and DeGeneres have had a strained friendship, the public show of support marks a meaningful gesture. O’Donnell previously told Us Weekly that the two were no longer close, describing their relationship as “awkward but without malice.”
The feud between Trump and O’Donnell spans nearly 20 years, beginning in 2007 when she criticized him on The View. Since then, the two have traded jabs repeatedly, with Trump escalating attacks during his political rise.
Rosie O’Donnell is currently based in Ireland, while DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have also reportedly left the U.S. following Trump’s 2024 reelection.
