NYC Dad Wins Pedro Pascal Look-Alike Contest, Scores $50 and a Year of Free Burritos

Brooklyn lighting director George Gountas stuns at NYC’s Pedro Pascal look-alike competition — and walks away with the ultimate Father’s Day prize.

Move over, Mandalorian — there’s a new Pedro Pascal in town.

On Sunday, Brooklyn dad George Gountas was crowned the winner of New York City’s much-hyped Pedro Pascal look-alike contest, held on Father’s Day at Son Del North, a popular Mexican eatery in the Lower East Side. With over 30 contenders channeling their inner “daddy energy,” Gountas took the top prize: $50 cash and free burritos for a year.

🏆 A Crowd Favorite with a Hollywood Connection

Gountas’ resemblance to the Game of Thrones and The Last of Us star has been noted by his family and even strangers for years. His wife, Jenny Gania, said the comparisons began after Pascal’s role as Oberyn Martell gained popularity — and even young fans started pointing out the uncanny similarity.

“When we saw this contest, I told him, ‘You have to do it. This is your Father’s Day treat,’” Gania told the New York Post. “He’s not even on social media. But now he’s going to be everywhere.”

As it turns out, Gountas has his own ties to the entertainment world. He’s a lighting director who’s worked on The Daily Show and comedy specials for Trevor Noah, Ramy Youssef, Pete Davidson, and Chris Rock — proving his Hollywood credibility goes beyond his Pedro-inspired good looks.

🌯 A Spicy Response to Pedro Pascal’s 2023 Comment

The contest was hosted by Annisha Garcia, chef and co-owner of Son Del North, who was inspired to create the event after Pascal’s viral Hot Ones interview in 2023. In the interview, Pascal joked that “there’s no good Mexican food in New York.”

Garcia took it personally — and humorously.

“We were like, ‘There is good Mexican food in NYC. And we are here.’”

With crowds waving Grogu (Baby Yoda) plushies and homemade signs, the event turned into a full-on celebration of fandom, flavor, and fatherhood.

👀 Celebrity Look-Alike Contests Are the New Trend

This quirky contest follows last fall’s viral Timothée Chalamet look-alike competition in Washington Square Park, which even saw the Dune star make a surprise appearance. Since then, celebrity doppelgänger contests have become a global trend, with events honoring stars like Glen Powell, Drake, Jeremy Allen White, Paul Mescal, and Harry Styles.

Winners of those contests have gone on to appear in sketches, movies, and even walk the red carpet — like Max Braunstein (Glen Powell’s look-alike) and Miles Mitchell (Chalamet’s winner), who both made it to the 2025 Golden Globes.

Could Gountas be next? The internet certainly hopes so.
