Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t holding back when it comes to the one Terminator movie he’d rather terminate.
The 77-year-old action legend, best known for his iconic role as the cybernetic killing machine in the Terminator franchise, recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live to promote season 2 of his Netflix series FUBAR. During the candid interview, host Andy Cohen asked the question every fan has pondered: Which Terminator film is the worst?
🦾 Schwarzenegger’s Pick? Terminator Salvation (2009)

“I would say the worst was probably the No. 4, because that was done during the time I was governor, and I was not in it,” Schwarzenegger quipped, referencing Terminator Salvation starring Christian Bale.
The 2009 film — directed by McG — was a gritty, post-apocalyptic reboot of the franchise, and the only mainline entry in which Schwarzenegger did not physically appear. (A digital version of his face was briefly used.)
“How do you do a Terminator movie without me being in the Terminator movie?” he added. “It doesn’t make any sense.”
😆 “I Should’ve Passed a Law!”

The former California governor even joked about using his political power to prevent bad filmmaking.
“I called immediately. I said, ‘I’m going to pass a law forbidding [filmmakers] to do movies that suck!’”
Though Salvation earned $372 million at the global box office, critics and fans were largely unimpressed. The film holds a 33% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and is widely seen as the franchise’s low point — a view Schwarzenegger apparently shares.
🔄 Franchise Fallout and Return
Following the underperformance of Salvation, the series was rebooted with 2015’s Terminator Genisys, in which Schwarzenegger returned to his signature role. He also reprised the character again in 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate.
Despite mixed results at the box office in recent years, Schwarzenegger’s performances remain the heart of the franchise. Many fans still consider 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day to be one of the greatest action films of all time.
