During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers (June 25, 2025), the Oscar-winning actress revealed that her two daughters had an unexpectedly emotional reaction when they saw her drastic new haircut for the upcoming Netflix action sequel.
“One literally started bawling her eyes out,” Theron said with a laugh.
The 49-year-old actress explained that her daughters, Jackson (11) and August (7), are typically more into traditional, feminine styles — and weren’t prepared for their mom’s transformation into the warrior-like immortal character Andy.
“They think of me as a princess,” she told Seth Meyers. “They want Mom to look like a princess.”
Theron said she was in the middle of getting her hair cut into the now-viral mullet when her daughters walked into the room and froze in shock. “I just remember looking over and they both came in really excited, and then they just both froze,” she recounted. “One started crying. One literally started bawling her eyes out.”
💬 “We All Get to Be Who We Want to Be”
Although the reaction was dramatic, the moment turned into an important parenting lesson for Theron.
“I had to actually sit down with her and say, ‘We all get to be who we want to be. And right now, Mommy wants to wear a mullet.’”
But despite the heartfelt message about self-expression, her daughter was blunt in her response:
“I still don’t like it.”
Theron admitted that the hairstyle was a “big shock” even for her, and noted that a mullet leaves little room for error.
“You have to get it right. Because it’s a mullet. You can’t mess it up.”
